A Note on Dates

Release dates are funny things, especially for the very early Disney cartoons. First of all, moviemakers were required to announce a release date for advertisement in trade journals which for some became the "official" release date even when the short was released before the announced date. In some cases, Disney and the distributors even announced two different dates! It was very rarely the date when the short was first seen in theaters. To make matters worse, Disney had a habit of showing shorts in secondary markets before it hit the major markets in New York and Los Angeles. It's been difficult to ascertain when a certain short played in one of these secondary markets.

So, "release dates" should be taken with a grain of salt and should only be used as a ballpark figure instead of exact dates. I'll be noting where I find different dates as I come across them .
